Leona gives Peggy a Japanese glass ball.

Peggy and Dick McKibbon are sailing a friend's sailboat from Alaska to Australia. They had to make an emergency stop in Midway to repair the boat's starter. We had a good time learning about their travels. We hope that our path and theirs cross again sometime in the future. You can read their chronicles and monitor their progress at http://katmai.net/ .

Jim to the rescue!

An adult albatross was found with a hook caught in its bill. Jim removed that hook with help from Kittipong and Apiwat.

Jim and FWS biologist John Klavitter examine the hook that was removed. The hook still had the lure attached, plus there were flying fish eggs on the hook.

65th Anniversary Battle of Midway

Flag hanging under the roof of the airport hangar during the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway ceremony.

Eight gun salute.

June 04, 2007 -- Commander of the Pacific Fleet speaking to the crowd.

The cruise ship that brought most of the visitors for the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway. It is anchored in the lagoon, however it looks like it is floating in a sea of verbecina.
